The phrase “football is just an excuse” is a frequent chant heard at Czech soccer games. The fans want it known that some find the match an ideal opportunity for releasing pent-up aggression, while for others it represents a chance to meet friends united in their support of a beloved team. For the filmmakers, however, soccer (specifically a game between the Prague clubs Sparta and Slavia) became “an excuse” for shooting a portrait of contemporary Czech society. Thus the movie’s main characters are by design not those involved in the match proper, but the fans of both teams, a couple of VIP guests, Italian tourists, bettors, security personnel, and even the corner flag. Via static shots from “invisible” cameras, viewers gain a sense of how the various individuals experienced the soccer game. Beyond the primitive passions, vulgar outcries, and goal-time euphoria, we witness conversations whose unwitting humor and frequently ridiculous tone are reminiscent of the funniest moments of Czechoslovak New Wave movies.

However, Bohunka definitely doesn´t want to be another one in the word of abandoned and lonely wives… Although Helena and František try to go out well, there is one problem. One is not a solitaire when he is 50 years old. Family relations that have been created for years are as circles that cannot be overcome only for the fact that there comes a chance to begin a new life. The first conflict can be seen very soon and it opens an expectation for Bohunka. But partners who fell in love and who are reasonable as František and Helena know that their quarrel was only a result of a rash reaction and the real problem consist in the fact that they are not used to each other, they were not actually alone together! And so František returns with a new drive and a new chance: This time it won´t be a trip to Paris, but a wonderful romantic holiday in exotic surroundings…

Both look forward to how beautiful experience await them and they by no means suspect that now they stand before a real test of their relation.
